Akpoebi Nora Ojeke has always loved writing since her childhood days, as she has been blessed with a vivid imagination. She would spend a lot of time reading a whole range of genres, from romance to thrillers, and started out writing as a hobby. She recalls sharing her finished handwritten manuscripts with her classmates in primary school and later secondary school. They always looked forward to her stories and would ask for sequels, prompting her to write more.
She joined the writing club in her senior secondary school days and was excited to see people jostling around in a bid to read her short comedic stories that were pinned on the school writing board. Over the years, she had written over ten unpublished manuscripts ranging from romance and adventure to thrillers, and has retained her handwritten letters to the then major traditional publishing houses querying them to publish one of her books. None of those letters were ever mailed out (yes, we used post offices at the time) as she had to focus on other things, such as earning her first degree in chemical/petrochemical engineering from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and later her master’s in petroleum engineering from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Life happened with her working as a Petroleum Engineer in the oil and gas sector and being a wife and mother of two children, and her dream of writing took a back seat for the next twenty years. That was until COVID happened in 2019, and the fast-paced world was forced to a grinding halt. She recalled that period as a time when people tried to find their purpose and meaning in life. A time when solitude made her a bit more reflective, and she suddenly remembered her old manuscripts and her love for plants and nature. She immediately opened a plant page, @norasminigarden, on Instagram, where she engaged with other plant lovers, displaying her passion for plants and nature.
Nora also published a book of poems titled Echoes of my Heartbeat and a novel titled Talo using her name Akpoebi Nora Ojeke on various major book platforms, which were positively received not only in Nigeria but internationally.
On the 1st of April 2023, Nora was listed among the 50 most inspiring authors by Business Day, Nigeria. She is a multigenre author with a knack for writing books that are a bit out of the norm. With her prolific sense of writing, her books will give you vibes of romance meets fantasy meets thrillers with a twist of the bizarre. Nora is set to release the very first interactive fantasy game book titled Surefoot, where the reader gets to play the main character in the book with multiple endings.
Expect more amazing stories and adventures in the future.
