BURN IT DOWN – PART ONE
The nation just went through the End SARS movement in 2020 that was met with a bloody end and I sat saddened with the rest of the world in pain and in a reflective mood. Passions were high and people felt defeated and my only means of expression was to write my thoughts into a poem.
Here is the first part of the poem/short story titled ‘Burn it down’.
Burn it down… they screamed
Their voices full of hate…I could hear the anger in their screams
Mother snapped me out of my shock and wrapped the screaming baby in a cloth as we ran out of the house.
They were outside chanting in anger.
Chaos all around, people running, screaming.
The entire scene was just simply chaotic.
I choked as I gulped in the smoke-filled air.
My eyes watered as the flames lit up the sky.
Mother grabbed my arms, as she held the crying baby, my little sister Nahla.
Together we ran through the throng of pulsating bodies.
Some people were crying while some looked lost.
But most of them had a saddened look in their eyes
The eyes of men that had seen and gone through too much
The eyes of men that had finally snapped.
